Partisiipit <> The Participles
There are 5 participles in the Finnish language. If you don't know what participle means, don't worry, neither do I. But I do understand how they work and I believe that I can explain them to you in such a way that you'll understand them too.
Now I'll show you what each participle looks like using the verb tehdä as an example.
Akt. 1. tekevä
Akt. 2. tehnyt
Pas. 1. tehtävä
Pas. 2. tehty
Agentti. tekemä
You're probable now thinking that you've seen some of these before. Tehnyt for example is used in the formation of the negative past tense as well as the perfect and past-perfect tenses. Tehtävä is the Finnish word for an exercise (the kind you'd find in a textbook). I will explain this all in the following pages. I suggest that you study these in the order that I've put them in. And by the way, understanding the participles will give you a much better chance of passing the YKI-exam if you're thinking of taking it.
